Medical professionals use research data to facilitate the advancement of their specialty branch of medicine through rigorous patient evaluations using common protocols.  Certain patient population and medical conditions are identified and data collected in search for trends and statistics that may result in improved treatment options and interventions that result in improved patient care and often time lifesaving treatment options.  The same data may also be used to support research grants and other funding opportunities.
